For this season, Arashi Yanagawa is able to channel his inspiration, John Mapplethorpe’s portraits of fetish subculture, into edgy yet elegant menswear. It can be difficult to keep the inspiration from overwhelming a collection, but Yanagawa includes enough nods for Mapplethorpe’s subject to be present in the clothes without the collection veering into pure fetishism. The androgyny invites women to nab a sweater, the louchesly textured leather coat, or the fun Rodin print white shirt.
