British actor, Jack Fox, has had a really exciting start to 2023 with the recent release of his leading role in Óskar Þór Axelsson's Operation Napoleon, and will next be seen reprising his role as Sir Edward Denham in the third and final season of PBS MASTERPIECE’s Sanditon. Jack is probably best known for his roles as Nico Eltham in Sky Atlantic’s Riviera alongside Julia Stiles and Will Arnett, starring as Zack in BBC’s acclaimed comedy Cheaters with Susan Wokoma, and as Ralph in Channel 4’s critically acclaimed Fresh Meat opposite Jack Whitehall and Zawe Ashton.

Below is an excerpt of Jack Fox’s interview with GR8T Magazine that will published in GR8T Magazine Print Issue 09 - slated to release in early April 2023.

Tell us about your most difficult role. How did you prepare for it?

That’s a hard question. I could give you two answers. I played a character called Charlie, in a West End production of Dear Lupin. The character was a real-life person, who I came to love and know well in real life. It was also a two hander, in which my real-life father played my dad in the show. He died at the end of every performance. Tough. Very tough, but I performed 120 plus shows with my old man, which was beautiful, and something I will never forget. Secondly the role of Zack in Cheaters on BBC 1. A repressed, and sexually confused American. I am naturally quite prudey, at one point in the show, I had to, well…how do I say this delicately, climax into a vase, whilst listening to my wife with another gentleman. Tough, and now I can never look at a vase in the same way again. So, swings and roundabouts.

In MASTERPIECE’s (PBS) much loved series “Sanditon”, as Sir Edward Denham, how relatable and/or un-relatable are you to the character?

He’s a piece of work. I loved playing him. Devilish, delicious, naughty, manipulative. A bored spoilt ass who delights at the most questionable of behaviour, what’s not to love.

What is the most memorable experience from “Sanditon”?

The writers, the producers, the directors, the crew, the actors, the team really. A driven kind bunch of people. There are some moments in season 3 that stand out, although I have, in my time, made some faux pas’s, spoiler wise, and thus I shouldn’t say any more. I would also be remiss if I didn’t mention a group called, “The Sanditon Sisterhood” think Sherlock Holmes meets MI6, and they are fundamentally the reason the show has a 2nd and 3rd life. They fought tirelessly for it, with petitions, publicity stunts and generally love. They are firmly in my heart too.

What can we look forward to from you after the third season of “Sanditon”?

I wrapped a film called Operation Napoleon in Iceland, with Iain Glenn, Darri Ingólfsson, Vivian Olafsdottir, directed by Óskar Thór Axelsson, it will be in cinemas March, keep an eye out. It was a blast to shoot and has National Treasure action, adventure feel to it.

What is the best advice anyone has ever given you about acting?

Sean Connery said to my dad when they worked together, and he passed onto me, *Read in Scottish accent* “Preparation Shows.” Be the most prepared person in the room, from the lines to the character, if you do, you are free to experiment in any take, or any scene. If you don’t, you will regret it.

Who are your role models in the industry (or outside of it)? Why?

Billy Wilder, an incredible director, from the 50’s 60’s, The Apartment, Sabrina, sunset boulevard, I could go on. Clark Gable, Ben Gazzara, Jimmy Stewart. Pawel Pawiloski, have you seen “Cold War”? Wow. Frances McDormand is magical. Martin McDonagh is brilliant. I just saw Jenna Ortega in Tim Burton’s Wednesday, I thought she was dynamite too. I will stop now, so as not to bore you. Oh Ed Norton, okay that’s me done. GR8T
