Feature Artist: Jonathan Matas
Seattle-born artist Jonathan Matas is most comfortable with a paintbrush in his hand, creating art that can be seen in galleries, on public walls, streets, trains, and on occasions, hanging over freeway overpasses.
Well-recognized throughout San Francisco and Silicon Valley -- with diverse works ranging from murals in the Mission to the walls of Facebook headquarters. Matas has a long-standing commitment to social-engagement through his art, which has been expressed through the content of his own work and the numerous workshops and projects he has facilitated with underserved youth.
Matas' artwork is inspired by his meditation practice and often has themes highlighting the ever changing boundaries between what is real and what is illusory -- hinting at the processes through which humans give the world meaning and reality's ultimately non-dualistic nature.
Jonathan is currently in Asia, residing primarily in a village in North India.
